♢ A Poet for ‘Bruised Evangelicals’
You may enjoy this profile of Anglican poet Malcolm Guite.
Guite is an anomaly that somehow makes sense: He’s an Anglican priest, poet, academic, and singer-songwriter. He enjoys smoking a pipe and rides his Royal Enfield café racer through the English countryside. He meanders on lengthy daily prayer walks and sings and plays guitar in a blues band called Mystery Train.
♢ The Situation
I've been pondering writing about this only to find Chris Martin already has.
Here’s the deal:
We live in a time defined by our ever-increasing desire (and ability) to engineer and control every single aspect of our lives.
The good life is inherently unable to be engineered, purchased, predicted, or controlled.
Because our increasing pursuit and attainment of control is not yielding a better life, we grow increasingly enraged at the incongruity.
♢ We Need to Stop Saying That There Are 33,000 Protestant Denominations
Here is a Roman Catholic shutting down a slogan often hurled at Protestants by Catholics and skeptics.
There are not — repeat with me — there are not 33,000 Protestant denominations. There are not anywhere close to it. It is a myth that has taken hold by force of repetition, and it gets cited and recited by reflex; but it is based on a source that, even Catholics will have to concede, relies on too loose a definition of the word “denomination.”
♢ 3 Steps to an Enduring Faith
The Christian walk is hard, and it's easy to wander off the straight and narrow. This piece offers advice of staying strong.
Over more than thirty years of ministry, I’ve seen too many who did not endure, men and women who started well but did not finish well. And if we are honest, that should cause all of us to ask in humility: How do we endure?
♢ From the archive: God is Holy
I can't believe this was six years ago. My thoughts on what it means that God is "holy" and how we should respond to that.
♢ The Night Sky Should Be Brighter Than the Sun (video)
This video is not made by a Christian group, but it explores one of the most interesting questions that plagued science before it accepted the beginning of the universe: Why is the night sky dark?
