You're probably right that it's useful contextual information -- as is the fact that he's "emerging" which also ended up getting cut. I struggled with what personal information to include in a book review.

Considering that he refers to Irenaeus, I can't accuse him of only going back to proto-RC tradition, but I've seen the problem you refer to.

In the end I couldn't tell if this lack of information was an intentional vagueness or simply poor choices. With anyone else I'd suggest poor communication skills, but his blog shows that he doesn't suffer from that problem.

I hope the vagueness isn't intentional.ChrisBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04611311820554248004noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8196630391794341478.post-61730651471277454302008-10-02T19:02:00.000-05:002008-10-02T19:02:00.000-05:00Well, where do I start? I read his book, A "Community Called Atonement" and from your description the Parakeet one sounds like a rehash of that one. The emergents do not like to be cornered or udnderstood so that is probably why your frustration. Also, when they talk about our "forefathers" and our "tradition" they usually are referring to the 5th century and beyond--in other words a proto-Roman Catholicism. They almost never go back to the first or second century. McKnight and his emergent buddies have an agenda (although a vague one) that they continually bring to the Bible and Christianity which is the real reason I think you sounded frustrated to me. I also felt frustrated after reading his other book. I really couldn't tell you what he was saying, although I do remember one part where he accepts all atonement theories. Thus the title.Diane Rhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02442757505452061995noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8196630391794341478.post-14328831059934539822008-10-02T09:57:00.000-05:002008-10-02T09:57:00.000-05:00The words of the Bible ...take operational life in...The words of the Bible ...take operational life inside us when they are ingested and revealed by the Holy Spirit.

I think Scot would probably agree with that statement.ChrisBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04611311820554248004noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8196630391794341478.post-36113593463051679812008-10-01T15:00:00.000-05:002008-10-01T15:00:00.000-05:00I'm not sure since I didn't read the book, did Mr....I'm not sure since I didn't read the book, did Mr. McKnight ever refer to the Bible as the "Living Word". When we leave that part out...we miss a lot. The words of the Bible not the actual physical book in which they are printed, are alive...they take operational life inside us when they are ingested and revealed by the Holy Spirit. They are eternal and shall never come to an end. An eternal story if you will, that brings forth LIFE!Nancyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03127927719002627674noreply@blogger.com
